Fundraising
Raising funds is always an important activity for any church and St Mary’s is no exception.
At St Mary’s we have a Fundraising & Social Group which is responsible for planning and making sure that such events happen. All fundraising events are then organised by members of the congregation – not necessarily by members of the Fundraising and Social Group. Quite often ideas for fundraising events come from members of the congregation who are not in the group – perhaps through links to musicians or to other professional organisations. Most importantly, fundraising events are fun and very much social events as well.
Money raised through our fundraising activities helps towards the upkeep of the church building and our Rectory and is often used for the replacement of reasonably expensive things like office computers or new white goods for the church and Rectory. During the year you will also notice that we raise funds through collections at a Sunday Service for charitable bodies such as The Aberlour Trust, Mission to Seafarers and one or two of our close local neighbours Barnardo’s and Aberdeen Cyrenians. St Mary’s has also organised specific large-scale fundraising activities or programs – which can last several months – when we’ve faced the requirement of installing a new heating system or a new sound system or even a new roof for the Rectory.
Fundraising at St Mary’s
Examples of fundraising events that take place at St. Mary’s are:
Cheese & Wine Tasting Evenings
When we sample lovely cheeses (quite often from Scotland) and wines from around the world.
Silent Auctions
Where we get the opportunity to secretly bid for high quality new or nearly items donated by members of the congregation.
Gallowgate Fair
An annual event at St Margaret’s Church where we sell homemade bakes, preserves and toffee.
Bring & Buy Sundays
When you can pick up some great value home baking.
Please keep an eye open for our Fundraising and Social Events calendar on the noticeboards and also for news on events on Facebook and the weekly newsletters.
If you have any great ideas for fundraisers or want to be involved just speak to the wardens or our Rector.
