It was a particularly joyous occasion when our ordinands Godwin Chimara and Ferdinand von Prondzynski were ordained deacons by Bishop John on 23rd September. The church was packed, with musical contributions from several churches and a sermon from Bishop Dorsey. There was much hugging and laughter, and hospitality and fellowship afterwards. An auspicious start to their ministry
From the Diocese
Diocesan Library and Archive
If you’ve been in St. Mary’s recently, you’ll have seen a large pile of boxes near the back of the church, and some half-assembled shelving. This is because for a few months we are playing host to the Diocesan Library, until the contents are transferred elsewhere. After Christmas the shelves will be finished and the books arranged on them, and it will look a bit less like a warehouse!
St. Mary’s has been selected as a safe and secure space temporarily not only for the library but for the archive, which is being weeded and passed on to live with already deposited Episcopalian papers at Aberdeen University Library Special Collections. This substantial work was started by Stuart Donald and his team of volunteer helpers when the library and archive were held at St. Clement’s in Mastrick. Covid and other factors, including St. Clement’s congregation’s need for the space where the archives and books were stored, has led to an accelerated but still professional process so that everything can be passed on in the right way to its long term home.
Upcoming – Diocesan Summer get-togethers
After the much-appreciated events last summer, the Diocese is organising another three times to meet friends old and new from across the diocese through the coming months.
25th June – Cruden Bay
Enjoy the seaside village vibe; stroll down Harbour Street to St Erroll Harbour; cross the
Ladies’ Bridge to the Cruden Bay beach or take the gently rising path on to the cliff-tops and the ruined New Slains Castle. In the centre of the village turn into Main Street (signposted Beach and Harbour). As the road bends right you will find free parking on the right and WCs on the left. Meet 13:30. Shortly after those who would like to walk as a group will leave for the castle (3km, 1 hour max). Be ready for great sea views, nesting seabirds and possible porpoise sightings. Worship 15:30. Our afternoon draws to a close with an invitation from Fr Dennis and members at St James’ to join them for Evening Prayer. You will see St James’ standing on Chapel Hill one mile west of the village. Adjacent car park.
16th July – Old Aberdeen
An easy walk through Old Aberdeen from St Machar’s Cathedral to King’s College Chapel.
Exact details to be confirmed in next month’s Diocesan Newsletter.
August or September – Royal Deeside
A late summer walk in glorious west Aberdeenshire. Date and venue to be confirmed.
