Book Review

09/04/2022 by Nicola Mills

American Dirt: Jeanine Cummins.

This is the fictional story of a Mexican mother and her son’s terrifying and perilous journey to the US border after a cartel murders the rest of their family in Acapulco. The book gives an insight into the plight of migrants from Mexico and other Central American countries undertaking the hazardous journey by La Bestia train and foot.
It is a powerful and heart-wrenching page-turner, showing the strength of a mother’s love and the extraordinary lengths she will go to to keep her son safe.

In these dark days as we are watching what is happening in Ukraine perhaps this book gives a voice to desperate refugees everywhere.
