‘How excellent is your name in all the world’
A very warm welcome to all
Trinity Sunday
Readings: Proverbs 8: 1-4, 22-31; Romans 5: 1-5
Gospel: John 16: 12-15
In today’s Gospel
In this morning’s Gospel, “Jesus said to the disciples, ‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now”. When I hear Jesus talking about the unbearable things of life I want to run away. But I can’t. It’s too late. There’s no where to go. As painful as it is to remember and as difficult as it is to talk about, I understand what Jesus means when he says, “You cannot bear them now.”
War in Ukraine
Please continue to offer prayers for our brothers and sisters caught up in the mayhem that is Ukraine. Please think about what you can do to help in any way for those who continue to reach out to the rest of Europe and beyond for our assistance. Whatever method or organisation you use to make donations, please do it rather than thinking about it.
Holiday
Sam and I will now officially be on holiday from tomorrow. As previously mentioned, Fr Roger will therefore be ‘running the show’ in my absence. Should there be any urgent pastoral matters that need dealing with, please, in the first instance, direct them to Fr Roger. If it can wait, then I will contact you on my return.
Bake Off – Sunday 19th June
This gives everyone notice of some fundraisers we have coming up. The first one is a ‘Bake Off’. Basically, what is proposed is that everyone who is able to, bake something off and bring it into Church on Sunday the 19th of June (two weeks time). We will then have an auction to sell off all of the cakes/bread etc and we will have someone judge what is considered the best three entries. There is scope for as many whacky ideas as you wish and I encourage as many of you as possible to join in. I also encourage entries from our younger members. Fr Roger will oversee this event as I will be abroad on holiday.
General Synod
I attended (online) General Synod between the 9th and 11th of June. As always, it was a wonderful occasion, even though I could not be there in person. I have made some notes and promise to provide an update on the pertinent matters arising on my return from holiday. In the meantime, Dr Nicola Mills, as your Lay Rep will, if available, try to answer any immediate questions you may have
Hymns 4 U – Saturday 9th July
On Saturday the 9th of July at 1pm, there will be a service of hymns held at St Mary’s. It is a fundraiser, and the name we have come up with for it is ‘Hymns 4 U’. Essentially what we (the fundraising committee) are asking is that each of us pay a pound per hymn, for our three favourite hymns. The top ten hymns with the most votes we will sing, and have a little talk on each of them. You can either pay via our donation button on the home page of the website https://stmaryscardenplace.org.uk (making sure to mention what the money relates to) or to myself or our Treasurer, Mrs Lydia Ross. You can notify us of your three hymns via our church email address at stmaryscardenplace@gmail.com or in an envelope addressed to me.
Jewellery
As mentioned in previous weeks, I am asking you to look through your jewellery boxes to see if you are prepared to part with something that you really haven’t used for years or maybe you just feel like donating something you have no further use of. Of course, it doesn’t have to be gold, it could be any type of jewellery that we might be able to sell on to a jewellers. In any case, I am now appealing to you to consider this and I intend to keep this running for the next 3 months, at which point we can assess where we are.
Coffee/Tea helpers
I continue to look for someone to take responsibility for producing a rota to look after the provision of teas and coffees at our after-service fellowship. Please come and speak with me if you are willing to help. Mrs Gillian Rose has offered to resume control of the purse for donations made during fellowship.
Vestry Vacancies
We have two vacancies on St Mary’s Vestry for Ordinary Members, and I would strongly urge those who feel that they could offer something to assist in the management of our Church to speak to me. Vestry membership is a rewarding role and provides an insight in to how we reach the decisions we do in our work here at Carden Place.
Reading Scripture
Our Peoples Warden Mr Iain Stewart has asked me to put out a call for more people to consider volunteering to read scripture and intercede at our worship. Should you feel so inclined, I encourage anyone who is considering this valuable ministry to approach Ian in the first instance.
