A very warm welcome to all
“I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost
Readings: Isaiah 25: 1-9; Philippians 4: 1-9
Gospel: Matthew 22: 1-14
In our Gospel today
Our readings tell of the abundance of the Kingdom of God. In the first reading we hear of the wonders of the Mountain of the Lord. The psalm (one of the most well-known) tells of how God will care for us as a shepherd cares for their sheep. The second reading speaks of how God provides for us in abundance. And in the gospel Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a lavish wedding banquet. What is our response to these explanations and illustrations of the abundance of the Kingdom of God?
Diocesan Library – we need your help
What should we do with the Diocesan Library? We’d like your views. When the books arrived at St Mary’s some time ago, the plan was to disperse them to interested people in the Diocese. Someone then came up with the suggestion that St Mary’s might like to house the library and make it available to interested people at set times, perhaps once a week. The Diocesan Library has been with us for some time now and the Vestry would like to know how members of the congregation feel about it. If you’d like to share your views and ideas, please talk to a Vestry member pr email us at stmaryscardenplace@gmail.com. There is a longer memo on this topic attached to this week’s newletter.
Mexican Night – Friday 17th November
On Friday 17th November we plan to have a Bring & Share Mexican Evening in the Choir Vestry. The idea is to bring along Mexican food and drinks to share. So please start thinking about your Mexican recipes and drinks and dust off your sombreros!
Planters needing plants!
We’re still looking for some help with the planters – bulbs and bedding plants would be great. Please contact Freddie Stephens or David Rose of our Buildings Committee if you can help.
Gardening Gang
Many thanks to the Gardening Gang that did such a great job of the weeding on the south side of the church last weekend and begun weeding the northern section. There’s another chance to help this Saturday 14th October and perhaps for a few more weeks in to October. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of the church. Many thanks to those who have already signed up and done some weeding.
Bottle Appeal
We ask everyone to consider donating attractive (and empty) gin or whisky bottles for our ‘Bottle Appeal’. This is an ongoing fundraising initiative and we ask you to keep your eyes open.
