In today’s Gospel
In today’s Gospel, Jesus sets his face to go to Jerusalem where he knows that the cross and death await him. For love of the whole world he is committed to this journey. He calls to us, his disciples, to ‘follow him’ in this way and is clear about the commitment that is needed and the cost it will entail.
War in Ukraine
Please continue to offer prayers for our brothers and sisters caught up in the mayhem that is Ukraine. Please think about what you can do to help in any way for those who continue to reach out to the rest of Europe and beyond for our assistance. Whatever method or organisation you use to make donations, please do it rather than thinking about it.
Holiday
Our Rector, Cn Terry, is currently on holiday. If there are any urgent pastoral matters whilst Fr Terry is away please contact our Assistant Priest Fr Roger (revrogdyer@btinternet.com or 0771-945-8571). Cn Terry will be leading worship again next weekend.
Bake Off – 19th June
Bake Off. We had a wonderful time of fellowship after 10am worship last week. Our thanks to all who brought bakes for sale and those who’s help made this time together run so smoothly. £51 was raised for church funds. Photo of the prize winners will be in the St Marys Trinity magazine.
Hymns 4 U – Saturday 9th July
On Saturday the 9th of July at 1pm, there will be a service of hymns held at St Mary’s. It is a fundraiser, and the name we have come up with for it is ‘Hymns 4 U’. Essentially what we (the fundraising committee) are asking is that each of us pay a pound per hymn, for our three favourite hymns. The top ten hymns with the most votes we will sing, and have a little talk on each of them. You can either pay via our donation button on the home page of the website https://stmaryscardenplace.org.uk (making sure to mention what the money relates to) or to myself or our Treasurer, Mrs Lydia Ross. You can notify us of your three hymns via our church email address at stmaryscardenplace@gmail.com or in an envelope addressed to me.
Jewellery
As mentioned in previous weeks, we asking you to look through your jewellery boxes to see if you are prepared to part with something that you really haven’t used for years or maybe you just feel like donating something you have no further use of. Of course, it doesn’t have to be gold, it could be any type of jewellery that we might be able to sell on to a jewellers. Please speak to Fr Terry upon his return if you have anything to offer.
Coffee/Tea helpers
We continue to look for someone to take responsibility for producing a rota to look after the provision of teas and coffees at our after-service fellowship. Please speak to Fr Terry if you are willing to help. Mrs Gillian Rose has offered to resume control of the purse for donations made during fellowship.
Vestry Vacancies
We have two vacancies on St Mary’s Vestry for Ordinary Members, and I would strongly urge those who feel that they could offer something to assist in the management of our Church to speak to me. Vestry membership is a rewarding role and provides an insight in to how we reach the decisions we do in our work here at Carden Place.
Reading Scripture
Our Peoples Warden Mr Iain Stewart has asked me to put out a call for more people to consider volunteering to read scripture and intercede at our worship. Should you feel so inclined, I encourage anyone who is considering this valuable ministry to approach Ian in the first instance.
All Saints : Holiday Club
All Saints : Holiday Club 17-20 Oct for those aged 4-11(inc P7) at St James’s, Holburn St. A joint project between St James’s, St John’s and St Mary’s. Please speak to Fr Roger is you would like to come along or have a conversation about volunteering.
