A very warm welcome to all

Gospel: Luke 10.1-11,16-20
In today’s Gospel
In today’s Gospel, we hear that Jesus ‘appointed seventy and sent them on ahead of him in pairs”. Why did Jesus send seventy? Some scholars believe that the seventy missionaries represented the seventy nations of the world that were listed in Genesis 10. By appointing seventy, Jesus was announcing God’s intention to take the news to the entire world. They were sent in pairs because their work was difficult, even with helpers. These men were sent into a vast field with very few workers to help them. They were to pray for more labourers to join them – just like we have to pray for more helpers today when we fulfil the same mission. The seventy were successful in their first attempt at spreading the Gospel. They conquered their fears and did what they were told.
War in Ukraine
Please continue to offer prayers for our brothers and sisters caught up in the mayhem that is Ukraine. Please think about what you can do to help in any way for those who continue to reach out to the rest of Europe and beyond for our assistance. Whatever method or organisation you use to make donations, please do it rather than thinking about it.
Thank You
I would like to thank Fr Roger for looking after things in my absence. It was very comforting to know that all pastoral needs, together with services, were being taken care of in the exceedingly competent hands of such an experienced Assistant Priest. I know also that you will have provided Fr Roger with any support he needed during the past few weeks.
Holiday Thanks
Sam and I had a wonderful holiday. We arrived back at Gatwick at 7am on Thursday morning after a 9 hour flight. After picking up the car, we then we faced another 9-10 hour drive to Aberdeen, arriving home at about 7.15pm. Needless to say, we were both extremely tired and jet-lagged. After a sound 8 hour sleep I was ‘up and at em’ on Friday morning. The generous gift you gave us before we left was very useful indeed and I continue to be so very humbled by the your care and concern for Sam and I.
Hymns 4 U – Saturday 9th July
On Saturday the 9th of July at 1pm, there will be a service of hymns (Hymns 4 u) held at St Mary’s. There is still time to let me know your top three (or more) hymns, but you’ll need to be quick as Matthew (our director of music) will need good notice to decide what hymns he will be playing the day. Essentially what we (the fundraising committee) are asking is that each of us pay a pound per hymn, for our three favourite hymns. The top ten hymns with the most votes we will sing, and have a little talk on each of them. You can either pay via our donation button on the home page of the website https://stmaryscardenplace.org.uk (making sure to mention what the money relates to) or to myself or our Treasurer, Mrs Lydia Ross. You can notify us of your three hymns via our church email address at stmaryscardenplace@gmail.com or in an envelope addressed to me.

Jewellery
As mentioned in previous weeks, we asking you to look through your jewellery boxes to see if you are prepared to part with something that you really haven’t used for years or maybe you just feel like donating something you have no further use of. Of course, it doesn’t have to be gold, it could be any type of jewellery that we might be able to sell on to a jewellers. Please speak to Fr Terry upon his return if you have anything to offer.
Coffee/Tea helpers
We continue to look for someone to take responsibility for producing a rota to look after the provision of teas and coffees at our after-service fellowship. Please speak to Fr Terry if you are willing to help. Mrs Gillian Rose has offered to resume control of the purse for donations made during fellowship.
Vestry Vacancies
We have two vacancies on St Mary’s Vestry for Ordinary Members, and I would strongly urge those who feel that they could offer something to assist in the management of our Church to speak to me. Vestry membership is a rewarding role and provides an insight in to how we reach the decisions we do in our work here at Carden Place.
Reading Scripture
Our Peoples Warden Mr Iain Stewart has asked me to put out a call for more people to consider volunteering to read scripture and intercede at our worship. Should you feel so inclined, I encourage anyone who is considering this valuable ministry to approach Ian in the first instance.
