The Road Ahead
Today (Sunday the 20th), the Cathedral Church of St Andrew’s on King Street Aberdeen will close its doors for an undisclosed period whilst assessment of what essential maintenance work needs to be undertaken takes place. Next Sunday (27th September) at 10 am, will be the first combined service of St Mary’s and St Andrew’s, as St Mary’s becomes the Pro-Cathedral during this temporary, but necessary hiatus. During this service, Bishop Anne will preside, and both myself and Fr Isaac will assist in bringing the worship. During this service, Fr Isaac and I will be licensed by +Anne to minister to each other’s church accordingly and I will be made an Honorary Canon.
Get on the list !
The numbers who will be able to attend the above service will be extremely limited to accommodate both congregations. It has been agreed that we will be able to allow for 15 (fifteen) people, individually, from each congregation to attend on the 27th. The absolute maximum we can allow is 50 (fifty) however, that would include family groups who can sit together. We are extremely limited, as stated above, should people attend on in individual basis. In view of this it is imperative that certainly from a St Mary’s perspective, I get a precise indication of who would like to come next week. Therefore, I am asking each and every one of you who have already been attending, and those who are considering coming to the above service, to let me know as soon as possible what your intentions are. Once we hit the maximum capacity allowed I will, unfortunately have to draw a line under it. It is therefore in your best interests to communicate sooner than later. The same principle will be applied with St Andrew’s congregation.
Times and Choices
All future main Sunday services will commence at 10 am. This is to allow for those wishing to access the Provincial service to be able to do so if they wish. Fr Isaac and I will hopefully be providing a 10 am Wednesday 10 am Said Eucharist in the very close future. These services will, as previously mentioned, alternate between the 1982 liturgy and the Scottish Prayer Book liturgy, in order to accommodate both Church’s traditions. Fr Isaac and I will also alternate presiding duties accordingly.
Alternative Liturgy
Since I have been Rector of St Mary’s, I have tried to maintain using the 1970 liturgy on months where there is a fifth Sunday. It has been agreed that this will continue and the first opportunity to do this will be Sunday the 31st of January 2021. November this year has five Sundays, but as this is Advent Sunday, we will defer until January.
Reading Volunteer
I need someone, who is willing to be filmed, to volunteer to attend St Mary’s at about 11.30 am on Tuesday the 22nd September, in order that we can assist in the pre-recording of the Provincial service to be aired on the 4th Oct. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are willing.
