A very warm welcome to all
Fourth Sunday of Easter
Readings: Acts 2: 42-47; 1 Peter 2:19-25
Gospel: John 10:1-10
In our Gospel today
In our Bible readings today we hear of the shepherd and the sheep as a image of our relationship with God. Jesus the Good Shepherd knows the sheep – calling them by name, providing for them and protecting them. The sheep know the shepherd’s voice, run away from strangers and are safe in the sheepfold.
Work on the new Peace Garden
Work on the West End Garden project will likely commence around the middle to the end of May. This will mean that there will be some disruption for parking which will be quite limited, during the duration of the work. Our architect Dave Chouman is just finalising the planning conditions with the city council Planning Department.
New Choir Vestry Flooring
Work will also begin very soon to replace the carpet in the Choir Vestry with engineered wood and the kitchen area with new linoleum. This will be a weekday commitment and will hopefully not affect our Sunday Fellowship.
Grave Talk
The Rev’d Dr Ruth Green of St James’ Holburn invites us to a café style event as part of the forthcoming national Demystifying Death week. The event called Grave Talk will be at 2 pm on Thursday the 4th of May. It is a chance to talk about death, dying and funerals with some input from Revd Ruth whose Doctorate concentrated on the practicalities and preparation for death for all involved, and everything that it brings. I highly commend this talk if you are free.
2023 Photograph Competition
Our 2023 Photograph Compton will be launched later this week and the full details will appear on our Website soon.
War In Ukraine
Please continue to offer prayers for our brothers and sisters caught up in Ukraine’s mayhem. Please think about what you can do to help in any way for those who continue to reach out to the rest of Europe and beyond for our assistance. Whatever method or organisation you use to make donations, please do it rather than think about it.
Bottle Appeal
We ask everyone to consider donating unusual bottles for our ‘Bottle Appeal’. This is an ongoing fundraising initiative and I ask you to keep your eyes open.
Poem Competition 2023
Just to remind everyone that our Short Poetry Competition was launched on the 4th of December. If you recall how successful our previous competition was it was a ‘no-brainer’ that we should do it again. So, get your artistic thinking caps on once more and let’s see if we can have some wonderful poems as we did last time. I have decided to extend the cut-off date of the competition, so you now have until the end of June 2023 to submit your entries via email to stmaryscardenplace@gmail.com or if you do not have a computer, on a hard copy to either myself or Mr David Rose our webmaster. The rules can be found via the website on the following link to this year’s competition at https://stmaryscardenplace.org.uk/uncategorized/poem-competition-2023/ Further information will be updated and will soon be made available.
